Spam upsurge

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed an increase in spam over the last week or so.  After Plusnet's crackdown following the webmail problem I received no spam whatever despite not changing my email address or password etc.  Nowadays I get an average of seven-ten spams each day that get transferred automatically to my spam folder and maybe three per day which don't get intercepted.  None get opened of course but is there something that can be done to avoid them altogether?

Re: Spam upsurge

You obviously aren't on the Postini trial Smiley
Only five spams in three boxes this week, all of them also missed by DSPAM, all of them marked for quarantine by postini-neptune, when Plusnet registers for that....
Brilliant!!

Re: Spam upsurge

Im constantly fed up with the explicit e-mails regarding the size of ones manhood which i think are coming from China i get regularly anything up to ten a day that slip through and are just annoying but if there were small children around could be very worrying. Luckily my kids are grown up now but i wouldnt like to think there are small kids looking at this garbage.....I block and bounce to sender but they wont go away.....

Re: Spam upsurge

Do not bounce spam - 99 times out of 100 the from address is spoofed and all you end up doing is spamming some other poor innocent who had nothing to do with sending the original spam.

And what happens when they decide to bounce it back on a similar basis.
Best option when it arrives is to delete it.
Better option is to take steps to prevent it arriving as best you can.

Re: Spam upsurge

Has anyone else had Outlook start to fail to send SPAM to Junk Folder?
Outlook sent all spam to the junk folder, then started failing.
No matter how many times I selected a senders email address as SAFE it still appeared as spam next time it was received.
Any idea how to re-educate Outlook spam filter?
Thanks

Re: Spam upsurge

I don't know if it's any help, but have you tried switching from Outlook to Thunderbird? I find it much better as regards setting up spam filters - and in other ways too.

Re: Spam upsurge

Simply do not use your ISPs mailbox.
i use google's free webmail service.
https://mail.google.com/
The spam filter is the best I have ever seen. I get maybe one spam email every 3 months. The storage you get is enourmous, (6 Gig at the moment).
It is easy to check your email from anywhere.
Why would you want to use your ISPs mailbox?

Why not apply to be moved to Postini? Am I right in assuming that there are only 3 email addresses on your account that you use? The only reason I ask is that your catch-all is still switched on.

Re: Spam upsurge

Since signing up to Postini spam does not appear in the Outlook Express inbox. Hope it stays like that.

Re: Spam upsurge

Well I have just had an email from the postini team  and am seriously angry.
Last week all my emails from a forum I am registered to suddenly came in with spam in the title and an odd one still is.........these are not spam and I dont want them interferred with in anyway.
On the other had all the true spam has come in just the same as normal with all the viagra and offensive email titles...............no spam there!
I have asked for spam checking or to go on any kind of trial and if true spam was going to be picked up fine but how can they tell.
Also over the same period did not receive emails from another plusnet customer, were these spammed out and how much other stuff have i lost?Huh

Postini is not marking emails with [-SPAM-] yet. That's the old system that's doing that. See here.
I suspect the problems you were having were to do with this which I extend my apologies for.

Please see the previous information I linked to. When we allow Postini to take control of the spam tagging then you should see a *big* improvement in this area.
