Sound & Vision mixing

Not sure if this is the place for this thread.... it could easily go inot LInux !  Either way, please move if necessary.....
I have a video of an artiste singing in one language, and I have the same artiste singing the same song in English.
I have opened two video players at the same time, and can, with a bit of faster/slower clicking on the time line, get them in synch, so I have the artiste "miming" in language A but actually hearing English..... (the lip synch isn`t too bad.... despite the obvious word differences)
What I would like to do, is to re-record the video, with the english soundtrack....
Any advice, hints, simple instructions, software? would be appreciated, thanks

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

1) What format is the video in (VHS, DVD, Digital video tape, etc.)? You may first need a video capture card to transfer it to your PC.
2) Digitally record the required soundtrack (Audacity is free, easy to use and versatile).
3) You need some video editing software. I use Pinnacle Studio, but it isn't free. You could try entering "video editing software freeware" into a search engine and see what you find.
Alternatively, ask a friend to do it.  Wink

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

The video and the audio are both MP4 format.... ( I use GOM player to view/listen)
I also have  Any Video Converter/ Any DVD Converter
and
Avidemux 2.5
So, have the software..... just want some idea on how to get the two to synch at the start..... not halfway through! ! ! ..

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

Often if you buy a video camera, they come with a free editing program, several of these programs allow you to add the sound at a single frame location, I use Pinnacle

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

So how do I play the movie file, remove the original soundtrack, and replace it with the audio track from the english version, which only has a still picture throughout the length of the  .mp4 file?
I cannot see a way to "synch" the original movie to the "donor" soundtrack. (or vice versa)....

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

Well I would do it this way  Grin
Open Avidemux
open the original movie, save as separate streams avi & mp3
open the English version, save audio
open the avi and the English audio and tell it to mux them
The above should work in M$ or Linux  Shocked
Now I haven't done this but it is similar to what a wanted to do a while back removing one soundtrack and replacing it with another.

How can you maintain sync if the video and the two audio soundtracks are of slightly different lengths?
Is it possible to change the length of a soundtrack by squeezing it/expanding it, without it sounding horrible?

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

There is an option to "sync" the files, as I said I haven't done it but it gives him something to try.

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

I have a need to do this on an occasional basis too
(In my case it's a recording where the video and sound are recorded simultaneously by separate programs).
Occasional dropped frames etc mean that there isn't proper sync.

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

I have done it !....
Noddy`s Guide starts here ! ! ! ! >.......
using  "AnyVideoConverter".....  http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
Add Video  - find file and "open"  > go to "profile" (across the top toolbar) and enter (from dropdown menu) Customized MP4 Movie (*.mp4)
Below that
set your Video Options  (especially  FRAME SIZE)
below that....
set your Audio Options  Disable Audio to YES
bottom left corner...... set your "output folder"
then go to top toolbar and click "Convert"....
this will give you the Video only.....
Now... add video(assuming you have a video with soundtrack you want to use). and this time the "Profile " needs to be set to MP3 Audio
Reset "Disable Audio" to NO
then click on "Convert"
this should give you the Audio track only...
now you need a new program to join them together......
this is so easy to use....!.... "VideoPad Video Editor"
http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html
it is free for home use..... so just click on "Get it now"...
When it is installed, you just add the video and then drag it to the first "time line"..... THEN add the audio file, and drag it to the second time line.... do the necessary "settings" for your finished movie, and then click on the top "Save Movie"
Two or three minutes later, it is in your output folder ready to use.... ! Cheesy

Re: Sound & Vision mixing

No.... I couldn`t find a way to "add them together"... nor how to remove the soundtrack off one, and the video off the other !....
The VideoPad software shows two or more timelines, where you Drag & Drop the video and sound files.... Avidemux hasn`t got that ..... leastways I couldn`t see it.!>!..
