Some help please (Specific DLL's)

I am beta testing some software (under Wine) and it requires these dll's to run.
Now the consensus is that they are "standard" windows ones  Angry But I am begging to differ. They are specific to Virtual C++ 8 (I think) and are not normally included on a standard install.
Neither my Wine install or my XP sp3 VM had them so I thought I would throw it open a bit more, Grin

I'm fairly sure that they are the Visual Studio 2008 replacements for the C Runtime that used to be provided through msvcrt.dll. I would have thought that since msvcrt was part of a standard install you would expect them to be part of a Win 7 install and possibly included in updates for XP and Vista...

A bit more checking - in Windows 7 they are for Visual C90
I have also checked in Windows 7 Ultimate RC where I definitely didn't install them and they are both there

Re: Some help please (Specific DLL's)

What actually is a dll?
As far as I can tell they are neither dynamic or libraries...  Smiley

Re: Some help please (Specific DLL's)

They're Microsoft Dynamic Link Libraries, as that definition is Microsoft's definition that may or may not be Dynamic, Libraries and / or anything to do with links, obvious really. Grin

Re: Some help please (Specific DLL's)

I have them on W7 32 bit.
I don't know anthything about these dlls but would wouldn't they be required for use by any applications that were compiled with Virtual C++?
A little search and it seems that Lavasoft (Ad-Aware) requires them, at least. I have that installed.
Hope that helps.

Re: Some help please (Specific DLL's)

The reason I want to know if most systems have these is for the developers of the software to see if they need to include them or just have a note saying you will require these dll's (if most systems already have them)
As I said WIne doesn't have them installed and my XP VM didn't have them, but I appear to be in the minority  Sad

Both of 'em present here on 32-bit Vista Business SP1 and 64-bit Windows 7 RC1.
