Thanks for the link, I do not play many games but will check some of these out.

We are born into history and history is born into us.

I am not a massive gamer either, but enjoy Civilisation and a few shoot em up's. Duke Nukem was a classic I played years ago, the startup screen brings back memories of DOS games
But for <£2 I will give it a play.

You appear to have to actually pay money for all those games.
There have always been lots of free games...
Such as Doom, Fretsonfire and many others.

If I actually USE something I don't mind actually paying a SMALL fee for it.
I paid £12 for the complete Civ V set on stream since I have played ~180 hours of it over the last month then I say it is a BARGAIN. However yes there are free games available, I play several every week, but none can compare to some of the heavyweights.
Some of the "free" ones you quoted rely on a "real" copy of the game to install. I no longer have a copy of Quake. I do have a copy of carmagedon but unfortunately it doesn't run under wine.

Well me too - although I'm not a games player.
There are hundreds (literally) of games that are free and included in the standard repositories.
These don't require the installation of the wine package.
Mainly board or arcade type games.

I play Mahjong and AisleRiot Solitaire (the freecell variant) along with gewled occasionally, all from the repo's. So I don't ignore them. I prefer rpg or strategy gamer and have tried all the ones in the repo's and am still looking.
Must admit I don't like platform games so haven't even tried the large number in the repo's.
