Skype is this theft?

I recently put £10 on skype so I could call outside phones ie normal land lines. This was the smallest amount allowed.  I then got a message saying that if not used in 6 months I lose the cash.  As the announcement comes after you have put the money in it is then too late to cancel.  That £10 will probably last me a year or more but now any left over after six months apparently belongs to skype.  Surely this is theft or at least a dubious practice although I have heard that some mobile phones (pay as you go) do the same.  I am on the pension but can afford £10 but I cannot afford to give it away!!

Re: Skype is this theft?

Are you sure you picked up what it said correctly? I don't use it for outgoing calls, but I had a quick look at the web site and I noticed what I have attached:

Re: Skype is this theft?

I'm sure I remember something about credit expiring after 180 days when I used Skype last time.

Re: Skype is this theft?

The credit will expire if you make no calls in the 180 days. When you make a call the 180 day counter is reset. I have had the same credit in Skype for over 2 years.
Skype normally send a warning email after 3 months that your credit is at risk of expirying. Now going to check my account and make a call Cool

Re: Skype is this theft?

I've lost money on Skype in the same fashion.
I put £10 on and then, being a sad old geek, I couldn't find anyone to talk to. Sad
If you make calls to landlines or mobiles you pay.
If you don't make any calls at all you pay.

Re: Skype is this theft?

which is why PN's broadband phone is much better, and included and if you don't use it you don't pay
and if you use it you get 240 mins free

Re: Skype is this theft?

Although I can understand that it would make life easier for you if there was no expiry - I don't really see the problem.
Once every six months, spend 1p calling the speaking clock. 1p service charge (not that it even is) every 6 months is cheaper than most VoIP offerings (although not cheaper than FWD).

Even the Speaking Clock won't talk to me Embarrassed

I really should give F9's offering a try
