Sky versus the rest - recommendations?

We are moving to a house which does not have a dish.
We are considering our options re TV reception.
Any recommendations re the alternatives to Sky?
Pros & cons etc?
Thanks

Re: Sky versus the rest - recommendations?

it depends on what channels you watch and what services are available at the property.
if it's not a virgin cabled area then your only alternate options are Freeview or Freesat, but if the channels you watch are not carried on that platform then clearly they are not viable options.

Re: Sky versus the rest - recommendations?

Strangely enough SWMBO and I were  looking at the Sky options available last night. It would cost almost £45 a month to have the few extra channels each month with two boxes and HD - no sports or movies add-on. We decided not to bother and will stick Freeview upstairs and Freeview/FreeSat downstairs. We have two YouView boxes as well.
Of those few channels SWMBO wanted much can be found on the web anyway.
We seem to have the same discussion every 18-24 months. Again, for us there seems no point paying for more of the same rubbish that is broadcast most of the time Wink

I wanted to watch Breaking Bad having heard all the hype about it but as it was on Sky I simply wouldn't have it so did without. But guess what, it's now on Spike and even better I don't have to pay for it.

Breaking Bad was never only on a sky channel.
it was on 5 USA, and now on Spike (both of which are Channel 5 channels).

Plenty of other satellites to be pointing a dish at, though you do have to put up with their local languages unless they offer an english audio stream... Smiley
