Moving On... ! ( another update in the saga ! )
Last evening... I had a go at doing it via my Lenovo 10 inch tablet running Android. Managed to ger " smartview " app installed, and tried with that... it found the telly, and the telly found the tablet, but the tablet just kept showing "connecting" for ages, before the telly "timed out".. .
Have looked at some other video player apps ( google search on line ) . to see which of them actually did "casting" to tv, unfortunately those that did were "not compatible" with my unit.. ( presumably because the Android version was too old, ! )
So, at the moment it is looking like I shall have to invest into a Chromecast dongle, to achieve what @Dan_the_Van has done.
A bit disappointed but will still see if there is something that works. ( maybe buy a newer tablet ! )

Out of interest, are there any published (international) standards relating to the connectivity between device, or would this be a totally proprietory setup with 3rd-party developed applications trying to fill the gaps?
My current understanding/reading is that ROKU is proprietory. I'm happy to be corrcted if my understanding is incorrect.

@greygit1 Dunno.... But I seem to remember reading something that ROKU tv use the MIRACAST software/system, whatever.
Generally, (again from snippets I have read) it looks like most of the video apps use "CHROMECAST" and needs a "CHROMECAST DONGLE" plugged in to the receive tv.
I installed "SMARTVIEW" on my Huawei Y6 (2019) phone to do a screen mirroring test with a music video on the phone, to my Roku TV ( no chromecast dongle )
