Scanner Speed

What determines the speed at which a scanner scans a document?  Is it the pc or is it the scanner itself?
Thanks

I have a Panasonic KV-S1025C which is quite a fast scanner, but it went even faster when connected to a fast PC.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Scanner Speed

The Panasonic would be a bit expensive for me.  I am looking for a reasonably fast reasonably priced flatbed scanner.  Are there any good comparison sites?
Thanks

Re: Scanner Speed

In my case it is the scanner and it just might be the usb connection speed limiting it

last time I went to buy a scanner I bought a printer/scanner for £60  Cheesy
What is the point of a cheap standalone scanner when all printers include one now?  Smiley

Re: Scanner Speed

In my case.  the point of having a seperate printer and scanner, is SPACE... or lack of ... to be exact..
I have a flatbed scanner, which I maybe use only once or twice a year, so it is kept "in the shed", as I only have room for a printer in my desk cupboard. no space on top, so it must be a front loading type, not "gravity feed"

Re: Scanner Speed

Another key element in scanning speed is how high you set the scanning resolution and, naturally, the size of the item you're scanning.

Re: Scanner Speed

The Kodak scanner I was working on today scans at the rate of over 100 double sided A4 pages per minute at 300dpi. A very good scanner but I guess that might be faster than you need and a little out of your price range!
