Using DMESG I can see it in the following line

No not used Ubuntu tweak, all other desktop icons are displayed.

Yes I appreciate that, but what we are interested in is the last few lines generated by inserting the USB key. They are at the end of the list and start with the

There's the problem. Looks like the drive is corrupt and therefore is not being mounted.
I was going to suggest using the disc check in the disc utility but I doubt that will work if as from the above it looks like the partition table is corrupt. Does it work in a Windows box ?. What does GParted think of it ?

Tried the cruzer blade on a second machine running windows but nothing shows up (even in disk management) ((Windows 7))

Here's a guide on how to partition a USB drive with gparted. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17001/how-to-format-a-usb-drive-in-ubuntu-using-gparted/
Make ABSOLUTELY sure you select the correct drive ( and then double check! ) before you create the partition and format it.
You want the File System as FAT32 then it will be compatible with Windows.
