Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

The Desktop icon for my Sandisk Cruizer blade 8GB has disappeared (Mint 11)
Using DMESG I can see it in the following line
3028.554538] scsi 9:0:0:0: Direct-Access    SanDisk  Cruzer Blade    1.00 PQ
Any easy way I can restore the icon ?

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

You haven't used "Ubuntu Tweak" and turned off the "show mounted volumes on desktop" or used something similar have you?
This will stop the icon being displayed on the desktop.

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

Is it mounted? Does it show in Nautilus just not on the desktop or is it not mounting?

Yes I appreciate that, but what we are interested in is the last few lines generated by inserting the USB key. They are at the end of the list and  start with the

sdh: unknown partition table

There's the problem. Looks like the drive is corrupt and therefore is not being mounted.
I was going to suggest using the disc check in the disc utility but I doubt that will work if as from the above it looks like the partition table is corrupt. Does it work in a Windows box ?. What does GParted think of it ?

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

Using gparted is beyond my skill at present... have downloaded it but will need to read through the documentation to see how it works,
Will get back to you if I get any further.
Tried the cruzer blade on a second machine running windows but nothing shows up (even in disk management) ((Windows 7))

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

You can just install gparted from synaptic ( package manager ). Then just run it and select the drive from the drop down list then just print the screen and post it. Should look something like the one attached

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

Thanks for that. Gparted  shows the cruzer blade as both partition and filesystem unallocated    size 7.45 GiB
Further info shows  Warning /dev/sdh: unrecognised disk label
\where do I go from here ?

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

I assume there was nothing you wanted on the drive!, it doesn't look like its readable anyway.
Here's a guide on how to partition a USB drive with gparted. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17001/how-to-format-a-usb-drive-in-ubuntu-using-gparted/
Make ABSOLUTELY sure you select the correct drive ( and then double check! ) before you create the partition and format it.
You want the File System as FAT32 then it will be compatible with Windows.

Re: Sandisk cruizer blade 8GB

OK created it and partitioned it but when I try to mount it using    sudo mount /dev/sdh  I get  can't find /dev/sdh in etc/fstab or etc/mtab.
Am I using the wrong command or do I need to do something else to mount it ?
