I have a Tosh Sat Pro L300 l/t that I am trying to get a gigabit expresscard installed in.
If I plug it in and give it a cable connection the lights both come on, but there is NOTHING shown on the system.
Dmesg shows no activity, lspci doesn't find it.
Any ideas?

I don't have an expresscard to test this but a quick google suggests booting the laptop with the expresscard already plugged in.

For some reason the card might not be recognised when hotplugged.

Hope it points you in the right direction
The problem can be solved by editing grub

That worked thanks, looks like it needs to be plugged in at switch on.
And pci=nomsi added to the grub.conf
Tried the other ones and it hung on boot.
Now got gigabit networking on the l/t.
Never had a l/t with expresscards before the old one's I have use PCIMCA which just worked fine.
