SMTP with MS SBS 2003

Hi
i have been through the archives for like two days straight but can't find anything like the problem i am having..
i have set up a small SBS at my house with exchange. all set up ok (i believe) everyone can access the internet and so can the server. can send mail via exchange but can receive it?
i have sent the finger command and it says 90 mails in the queue but nothing happens after that??
i have activated forwarding on the router to the server and set up to receive SMPT to my username.plus.com and the domains activated to SMTP deliver.
but i haven’t touched the MX records as from what i read i didn’t need to unless i select other.. is that correct?
anyone got any idea why i cant receive mail?
any help would be brilliant
thanks

Re: SMTP with MS SBS 2003

The DNS records can take several hours to update. My first suggestion is to do an MX look up on the domains to see where the MX records are pointing. If you can use http://www.iptools.com/ to do this. The first recound should be pointing to the IP address that you have your server, the next record should autoturn the the last record will be be PN MX last.

Port forwarding through your router?

Re: SMTP with MS SBS 2003

port is forwarded direct to the server - that what i thought as well, and i checked that it wasn't being firewalled..

Re: SMTP with MS SBS 2003

Itsme you could well be a genius
Port 25 is closed on 80.229.156.xx
I’m guessing the router could have a problem! as it is telling me it is open...  Will have a play around with it

Re: SMTP with MS SBS 2003

I don't know whether you want to edit your post to hide your web and IP addresses as this is a public forum? Your router port could be open as it's the server that will respond to the request. So are you running a firewall on the server?

Re: SMTP with MS SBS 2003

Have you rebooted your router since you turned the Plusnet firewall off?
