[quote=BBC]
The system's developers say it runs all Windows programs, but is much faster than its Microsoft equivalent.
Contrary to Linux and other non-Windows operating systems, ReactOS is a community-driven international initiative that is said to be fully compatible with all Windows-based applications, programs and services.
"There's absolutely nothing to replace Windows with, and if you decide to switch to a different operating system, you then have to change all the programs as well.
"But in this case you can change the system but leave all the programs intact."
The developers added that ReactOS was much faster, too - if on a standard PC Windows takes about a minute to load, ReactOS will only take about 10 seconds.
and here is the link to the ReactOS website - http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html

Quote The learning curve, if any, should be minimal, since ReactOS duplicates many of the Windows graphical environment applets, control panels and dialogs (Windows 2000/XP/2003).
Thats asking for a lawsuit if anything is.
Also given that the Russian gov is moving to Linux I can't see them backing it. (Maybe China would? :-X)

I would think this to be a major drawback for a Windows imitator.
(Of course they could use Linux, if you really must use NTFS).

"Please bear in mind that ReactOS 0.3.13 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is not recommended for everyday use."
This has been in development for a number of years and, Linux users please note, it uses a lot of Wine technology

It'll be nice if it lives up to XP/7 standards especially with drivers for hardware etc. I'd be very tempted to make the switch once they release a stable version. I'd want to give it a trial inside a VM first just to see if it has everything I want (such as remote desktop access etc) but yeah I'd give it a serious trial.

Also, there's a "stable" version of wine (1.2.3) - just because it's been declared stable doesn't mean that it will run every windows application perfectly.
