Router traffic when PC is shut down

VMBU is reporting typically 40-50 kB of usage per hour, even though my PC is powered down. I know in the grand scheme of things 0.5MB per day is not going to significantly use up my bandwidth allowance, but nevertheless is this level within what would normally be expected?  Is it indicative of some form of attempted hacking of the assigned IP address? Should I be worried about this when using the PC, or would the router firewall block any such attempt.

Re: Router traffic when PC is shut down

That is just normal background noise and is pretty low.  It will be keep alive packets from your router, as well as maybe the odd port scan from an infected PC.  Not anything to worry about really.

Re: Router traffic when PC is shut down

Thank you very much Phil for reassuring me. I used to see typically about 10kB per hour, so the increase may be down to the new router I installed recently.
