If you right click a Live Tile on the Start menu you can select the option 'Turn live tile off' and, yes, I would have thought that would be sufficient. Presumably removing it turns it off also? But this topic is for people who don't want the apps to be there, even if they do no harm and have no impact.

Quote from: HPsauce But surely you can remove anything you don't want/need/like from the Start menu?
Well, you would have thought so but at first glance, you can't. However, somebody has come up with yet another convoluted solution of performing what should be a simple task: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/10529-all-apps-start-menu-add-remove-items-windows-10-a.html

I was responding to:
in the post immediately preceding mine. Just the configurable Start Menu, not the "All Apps" list.

things like photo's only consume resources if you fail to disable the live tile in my experience you can also disable them from running without uninstalling and even task kill to switch off anything you don't want running, which is in line with the abilities in windows 8.1
uninstalling the default stuff is often problematic down the line when it comes to updates and hotfixes, of course if your doing a customised install for an offline system them none of that is an issue and you can hack away at the OS to thin it down as much as you like, then create a full system image (to use in case of future problems) and then your good to go /

just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
