Removing unwanted apps in Win10

Most of the Apps that ship with Win10 are of no use to me and, although I've managed to uninstall some of them, there are a lot where the "Uninstall" button is greyed out. Is there a way of uninstalling these unwanted apps, particularly "Mail" and "Photos".

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

First one I tried to remove was "Photos" but it didn't work and the reason why it didn't work was that the version number in the instructions is different to the current version number. However, I've found another little gem here: http://betanews.com/2015/08/02/free-up-space-in-windows-10-by-removing-unwanted-core-apps/ and, after following the instructions, I've managed to remove "Photos" at the first attempt.
Now let's see what else I can remove  Cheesy

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

Removed another half dozen and then along came a Windows update and re-installed some of them - Pah!  Angry
I just knew it would be a BIG mistake downgrading from Win7 to Win10.

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

@ RR..... very interesting.... and anyone would think....... Ah Great...!... I`ll spend some time doing that.and stop all these annoying things.... until you get to the last paragraph...

That's it! Note that in Windows 10, the Store app can be uninstalled. See How to restore Windows Store in Windows 10 after removing it with PowerShell.
Also, some apps cannot be uninstalled like the Contact Support app, Cortana, Photos, Microsoft Edge, Windows Feedback app and of course the Settings app

Also, the Store app made its way back to my system via some update.

So , after doing all that work..... it comes back to haunt you again in the famous  "automatic update installs"  for your safety and benefit, as supplied from Microsoft....

Yes, precisely, and that's one of the reasons why I've gone back to Win7 on my main PC.

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

With a bit of effort you can remove some things it says you can't.
I got annoyed with Cortana as it is something i will never use and do not want so i manualy got rid of it and it seems to not come back now.

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

It was easy for me to uninstall unnecessary APPS  Wink Cortona is also straight forward to disable , WHY would you want to uninstall Settings app Huh
The ones it says you cant uninstall ,, Simples you dont use them  Roll_eyes
Just because you cant uninstall does not make win10 bad

Not so seemples; I got the link I quoted from someone who asserts that some of these apps run unbidden and consume a good deal of the computers resources so his computer ran faster without them.

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

In addition to that, they clutter up the Start Menu but that's easily solved by installing Stardock's brilliant Start10 offering.

Re: Removing unwanted apps in Win10

But surely you can remove anything you don't want/need/like from the Start menu?  Huh
