Removing Linux

I am removing linux from aboot partition on the HD.  What is the proceedure - remove linux partition in windows then remove GRUB by fixing the MBR, or is it vice-versa?

I guess you're running through the windows install, in which case just use the partitioning tool that is part of it - delete the existing partitions, then create a new one for windows (or better still, one for the windows OS and a data partition that you can keep all your important files on) and windows should overwrite the existing data.

Assuming that you have a dual booting setup with a version of Windows installed then installed a version of Linux probably the best procedure is fix the MBR first. When you can successfully boot into Windows delete the Linux partition(s). This way if you end up with an unbootable system you can always reinstall the Grub Boot Menu by using a Linux Live CD and try another approach.
