Yeah.... See how activation goes when I connect it up. Installed with no product key, and intend to start with the orig windows 7 key, see what happens, but likely need to use Microsoft chat....

As you know, MS chat in my case paid off:)

Might be worth having a phone/camera to hand during the chat, as some of the screens were pretty impressive. They will probably remote in and may even bring up how many operating systems are logged under a MS account, if you ever had any registered.

(but personally I'd get that sorted first, then put the other apps and stuff on - there was nothing installed on my sons apart from the operating system - once W10 was fully operational, we then restored the other data etc)

Well.........I am officially amazed...  If didn't automatically activate, so tried the windows 10 key I extracted, but it didn't work. Thought i would try the windows 7 key the system had originally, and it activated without a problem.

Just doing updating now. Thanks all for your time everyone

The only difference was my sons original PC was running W8.1, so I find it interesting that your W7 key worked.

Anyway, who cares now, glad to hear it's finally working!!

(just give it a minimum of 3 minutes to 15+ hours for the updates)
