Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Hello all
Going to change from a USB modem to an ADSL router ("'bout time" I hear you say?!) and need some recommends.
I'll pay whatever, if price matches performance/reliability. Something straight forward to configure, where I can get at the stats easily.
My only/main computer is, and always will be, a single desktop. May consider adding a laptop at a later stage but this is definitely not a priority.

BTW  - has anyone heard of/experienced ADSL Nation's XF-1e ADSL 2+ microfilters? They're supposed to be "pro quality" (whatever that means) but they do get some good reviews around various forums?

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

I use an ADSLNation filtered faceplate - excellent results - better than the BT supplied equivalent
For a router the Netgear DG834G v4 is excellent and supports Routerstats and DMT for excellent reports and diagnosis

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Ta oldjim (again!) and jac2285.
Mmmm interestingly I was considering the Netgear 834 range - seems to get favourable reviews. The different faceplate might also be worth considering (but as I'm having Plusnet sort out my speed issue I'll wait on that one just in case the big boys from BT need to show up!!)
Cheers

Netgears are good - also consider Billion, 2wire 2700HGV (only via eBay) and the Speedtouch 585 as supplied by PN, especially if you are on a long line.

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Thanks Denzil  Wink  I've settled on a Netgear 834.  I'm sure I'll be posting again asking a boat load of questions about it!  In fact just thought of one already!!!
Q: the spec says it comes with inbuilt SPI firewall  (quote) " automatically providing rigorous inspections of all inbound and outbound communications".  As my Zonealarm free firewall already does this will I need to ditch it?
Cheers

Were you not entitled to a router from Plusnet (cost of postage only)?

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Thanks oldjim & praxisofevil. I'll keep both firewalls.
jelv -  cost was not an issue for me and being a first time router virgin! I opted for the netgear due, amongst other reasons, for the decent reports it had on various other forums about easy configuration, accessible stats etc. (Hope the show lives up to the billing)!

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

I've been very happy with my DG834 v1 (except when I tried to put the DGTeam firmware on to it!).
You will probably want to download RouterStats which is superb for monitoring DG834 routers.

Re: Recommends for an ADSL Router please

Netgear DGN2000 , very stable on long lines (Broadcom Chip) good , reliable , and price wise ok £67 or around that , can also be used with DGTeam Firmware for extra performance
