Re: VMWare Server and CD-ROMS

Thanks for the info.
Are you saying that you have to cancel VMware tools all the time to access the CD Drive and then re-install to boost performance?

Re: VMWare Server and CD-ROMS

Well - I've never even looked at VMWare - as is apparent:-
Is the scenario where you load X-windows an instance where you are using VMWare in a Linux environment to run another *nix style environment?
Why would you want to bother installing X-Windows into a Windows environment?

In Linux you will probably want to get a x-window service running so that you can install it using the package manager.

Wuss, what's wrong with using the command line.

Re: VMWare Server and CD-ROMS

@PJ
Have you by any chance made any comparisons between vmware and virtualbox?
I have used virtualbox with a Windows XP host and have tried both an Ubuntu guest and a Mint guest. It seemed very easy to setup and not too slow using the guest OS.
I've not used vmware and wondered how it might compare to virtualbox.

VMWare - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vmware
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine includes a list (and links) to lots of VM's.

well VMWare Server is free ...

So is Virtualbox though. From what I have tried VBox seems less complicated to setup.

Re: VMWare Server and CD-ROMS

I tried VMServer once but didn't like it as I found the mouse emulation to be a bit on the sluggish side.
I switched back to VMPlayer which is far more responsive (especially when you log into the VM via Remote Desktop :D).
Apparently though, I'm one of the few people who ever experienced this odd phenomenom.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
