I will be interested to see if it possible to slipstream SP1 onto Vista 64 bit so that I can do a full install before connecting to the internet

Doing a bit of digging the easy slipstream process for Vista which was announced by Microsoft has fallen by the wayside for SP1 so the options are basically a reverse integration which is a waste of time or to download SP1 exe in advance.

Well I won't be installing Service Pack 3.

That above link is MS Office service pack 3, and the disabled file types can be reenabled (admittedly by messing with the registry, but still...)
I'll be installing XP SP3 as soon as is possible to be honest.

I just hope they backtrack on that one before public release.

That is a fair point. I wonder if it warns you prior to install... you'd hope so really.

whoops - just realised - it is on public release as I downloaded it in October to slipstream my Office 2003 install

What are the benefits of XP's SP3?
Any new needed features? - Otherwise I'll be sticking with SP2...
