Anybody got any hints on slowing down the scroll speed when using lcdproc + mpdlcd ?
On my blue 2 line lcd the text is just a blur, tried changing all the settings in lcdproc.conf (and restarting it) but still the same.
Fixed! Go to the fix.

@HairyMcbiker - What value is the setting you have for the TitleSpeed = ?
Edit:- You want something between 0 (No Scoll) and 10 (No Delay)

OK what does :
find / -type f -iname 'lcdproc.conf'
I'm asking just in case you're making changes to another copy of the file that's not in scope for your project.

That's fair enough, are their any entries in its log file, try changing the value to a char value to break it, if this doesn't generate an error then check the case and structure of the settings, I suspect they may well case sensitive, and is it x=y or x y or x: y etc.

@Anonymous I can't find any log file for lcdproc
The layout is the same as the rest of the file, and what was stated on the web page.
TitleSpeed=1
With that I can just read the text when it stops to reverse.
Will try changing the value and see if I get any errors anywhere
EDIT: weird lcdproc doesn't appear to be running, BUT killing mpdlcd shows the lcdproc screen!
root@volumio:/home/volumio# killall mpdlcd
root@volumio:/home/volumio# killall lcdproc
lcdproc: no process found

@HairyMcbiker, can you tell me what method you're using to display your data please.
Edit:- The server is called LCDd.

OK found the server process LCDd!
What method?
I am running volumio, mpdlcd connecting to mpd to read the playing item and display it. That's it.
changing TitleSpeed to "a" does nothing, as does setting to 0 which should halt the scroll.

From further investigation mpdlcd talks directly to LCDd not using lcdproc (so lcdproc.conf is a red herring)

@HairyMcbiker - This sounds to me like its actually related to the library you're using for the LCD, have a look at the docs to see how to reduce the scroll speed.

@Anonymous
OK got it!
in the mpdlcd.conf
"pattern2 = {song format="%(artist)s",speed=4} {elapsed}
{song format="%(title)s",speed=5} {state}"
the 2nd line speed was 2 which is FAST changed to 5 and it is readable.
There is NOTHING in the docs about this!

At the moment it is a dumping ground with just enough room for the 3 monitors (2 on this pc, 1 for the current pi I am working on) to rest on swivel arms. Filled with printers (4 of them! 1 I use all the time a b&w laser, my trusty ip5000, and switched off a clp500 and a large canon mpd (most of them I got off freecycle) , hops, electronic bits, tall freezer, etc etc.
I keep saying one day I am going to have a clear out and get rid of some of this rubbish (as SHMBO calls it)

Ha! Similar to me then. My trusty old konica minolta coiour laser is out of action too. Some internal component has finally run out (can't remember which one though lol).
I got a small desk (forcefully downgraded by the missus when we moved to a bigger place - cos that just makes total sense) so i don't have any space for doing anything really... i have use of the garage.. with no power supply.. so thats full of other junk i've collected lol.
