Quick query about Linux Mint

I have a DVD with a mint .iso on it.
I want to boot from the DVD on a laptop.
I fire up the laptop with the DVD loaded.
I get the Linux Mint automatic boot countdown.
I then get a black screen with a LM logo in the centre.
I am expecting an options menu but one is not forthcoming.
Where did I go wrong?
It's Linux Mint 15 cinnamon

Expecting an options menu  Smiley
On my MacBook it goes from black screen with a LM logo in the centre to the desktop (takes a little while though when booting from DVD).

I'm not wanting to install it...God forbid!! I just want to run it from the DVD for now.
I've done this with a copy of Ubuntu a while back..

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

Just hit enter on ' start  Linux mint ' should load up and let you play around without actually installing It.

Hit enter during the automatic countdown to get to those options; the 'Start Linux Mint' option has the same effect as letting the automatic countdown complete - Mint runs in Live mode (the installer is launched from the desktop of the running system).

Does it proceed to load after this?

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

I'm nearly 66 so I don't have that long to try and find out.
Seriously I left it in that state for a good 15 minutes with no change. I'll give it longer and see.

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

It won`t "self install" from the DVD .... you should get an icon on the desktop ( after hitting the enter key at "start linux mint" ) when Mint is ready for use (from the DVD) to say "Install Linux Mint"..

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

Strat, the screenshot you provided, the 1st option will load it as a LiveCD, the installation won't be carried out unless you select the install option once the LiveCD has booted from the desktop if I remember correctly.

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

Thanks guys, I'm giving it another go now as will see what happens.
As I said before I used Ubuntu some time ago as a test OS for an iffy laptop and it ran from the CD much quicker than this.
I guess Linux has gone the way of windows in respect of load size.

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

1 switch off computer.
2 wait 5 minutes ( make a cuppa )
3 insert DVD
4 Switch on computer
5 press Enter key on "start linud Mint"
6 wait approx 2 mins for it to "load up"
7 you should now have the linux Mint logo  as your desktop, and the icon to "install Linux Mint " at the top  left  (2nd down) Icon
8 ready to "play"...
You might have to go through the hoops if you want to use WIFI connection to your router... ( need to be wired up first, to download the B46 driver perhaps ).

Re: Quick query about Linux Mint

See my post directly above for Mint attempt. Wink
Maybe the installation process checks for the presence of another OS, finds Vista installed and decides the owner is too stupid to install an OS.
