Problem with WINE

Nah... not the liquid stuff....

Two separate laptops... both running the same version of Linux MInt 19.3 MATE... both "claim" to be up to date with the update manager.

Main laptop, is running WINE 6.0.0

2nd laptop....

Installed  "wine-stable" from the package manager download.... it returns wine 4.0

sudo apt update wine       or    sudo apt-get update wine      returns

E: the update command takes no arguments.

doing a search on the 2nd laptop on package manager for wine-stable 6.0.0     returns

No packages

Re: Problem with WINE

@jab1  Nope... never had any problems before... just can`t figure out why two machines running the same distro, from the same install source, should give such a discrepancy.

I`m not sure, but I think the main laptop installed v5 originally,... then when the "update manager" chirped up a couple of updates, it went to v 6 .  so I was "kinda" expecting that to happen with the 2nd laptop.

Re: Problem with WINE

Okay, 'twas just a thought, and it doesn't make sense to me, either.

Re: Problem with WINE

Ah well.... at least I`m not going bonkers then ! ... will try a re-install of Mint and see if that solves it... ( also have a "no sound" problem too ! so a re-install may solve that as well ! _

cheers

You've probably added the WineHQ repo to get that version and still using the default repos on 2nd machine.

Re: Problem with WINE

Hi @shutter,

The Wine version packaged with Linux Mint 19.3 is 4.

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=314921

As far as I can see to have Wine 6 on Linux Mint 19; you would have had to have installed the Wine 6.0 packages from WineHQ.

EDIT @TheRoadCrew beat me to it!

Re: Problem with WINE

Fix

@RichardB  & @TheRoadCrew

You could be right... I seem to remember doing a lot of copy and paste stuff from the net to a terminal on the main laptop.  but I still think it`s a bit weird, that the "update manager" does not actually update it ! .

At least you have provided the probable answer to the original query.

Thanks.
