Problem with Audigy 2 sound card

My Audigy 2 sound card seems to work fine except when I try to record what you hear.
I have tried with the Creative software and also with Audacity and I get the same problem. The resulting sound is massively distorted. Record volumes seem OK and it used to work in my XP machine but I am now using Vista 64 bit.
Before I put the card back into the XP machine to test are there any suggestions as to the cause/solution.

I was - however I reinstalled them (1 BSOD and two reboots later) it now works properly

Thankfully, some tech problems are still as simple to solve as that.
