Problem Archiving Messages from Outlook .OST file

My archive file duplicated the original OST file in that most folders were sub-folders inside Inbox.  I found if I created a new sub-folder (which I called Inbox) then I could drag and drop files there successfully.  However if I tried to drop files in the top level Inbox folder they just vanished.  Thanks to @Browni who pointed me in the right direction.

@Anonymous I use Outlook 2013 for both IMAP and MS Exchange accounts and I have no .ost data files
