Printer software install and firewalls problem

When installing 'HP Solution Centre' the installation stopped because Windows Firewall needs to be running. I am unable to start Windows Firewall because PlusNet/McAfee Firewall needs to be uninstalled for Windows Firewall to run. Turning off McAfee firewall does not help.
Any advice please?

Have you tried to run your printer without installing the HP(bloat) solutions Centre software? 
i.e. boot up your computer.... switch on the printer.... plug in the USB cable to each and let Windows  " Found new hardware" do it`s stuff....

I'm sure that's not true.  The instructions always say words to the effect of "Make sure the firewall does not block the installation".  Therefore if you do have a firewall-related issue (which I doubt) it will be your McAfee Firewall being over-zealous.
