Printer cartridges

In an earlier post several people mentioned the cost of replacement inkjet cartridges and it's no secret you can refill your own, less known is that you can also reset certain makes of chipped cartridges using a redsetter which costs around £15.
For anyone wanting to know more about this topic I suggest you take a look at the following website,

On a more personal note I have been refilling inkjet cartridges for years (not with ink from computer fairs or market stalls) but from specialist suppliers details of which are all on this website.

Will it work if you use a basset hound instead?

Re: Printer cartridges

thisoldman,
Just check which cartridges come with this printer.... I think all cartridges are now chipped cartridges but it's only certain ones you can reset, the ones I use are the CLI 8BK and CLI 5 (colour) and they only take seconds to reset.
The offer of £123 worth of cartridges sounds good but if you do a lot of printing it's suprising how quick they go & replacement cartridges are not a good idea as the standard of inks can clog up printer heads causing irreversible damage.

Re: Printer cartridges

Looked at a Samsung Laser today, in large letters - only £69.66, it said in small  - part filled cartridge 750 copies approx, full cartridge gives 1500 prints (Its black only)  cost of a new replacement cartridge £89.95 - yes £20 more than the printer

Re: Printer cartridges

I bought a MP140 from Argos £29.99 the ink cartridges cost  £34.99 for colour and black. I tried re-filling them with a kit costing about £12 delivered with some success. One of them worked and the other would stop printing the Cyan for some reason. The only thing I can think of was the one that didn't work properly  was run dry and left for quite a long time where the other was filled before it run out  Undecided
The problem with re-filling is the bar code that tells the printer is genuine sticker is usually over where you need to drill the holes to fill so should be took off first to prevent damage and replaced. I was lucky because there was a hack that reset the ink level meter, not sure about other printers though. Because printer manufacturers heavily subsidise the price of the printer hoping to make money after sales on the cartridges they invest a lot in stopping you using copies of re-filling.
Some manu's are now selling printers that use less ink or the ink costs less but that also reflects in the price of the printer which has generally increased off set against cheaper ink.
Another point worth mentioning is the the ink cartridge doesn't actually measure ink levels what it does is work out how much ink SHOULD be in there based on the type of printing you have done so often it will say empty when it's not or vice versa.
Anyone trying to fill their cartridges I would advise doing it before it says empty and removing any bar code stickers that are in the way prior to drilling and put them back on afterwards.
