PlusNet going to use Thompson routers ??????? are you mad.

As a I.T pro i set up customers BB daily, I have seen more issues with thompson speedtouch equipment than any others brand.
While im here i sould just like to say that AOL opperate the worst support system i have seen and their network is slow.
Strangly TALKTALK have got it right and pre program the routers b4 sending them out.. when will other suppliers follow suit..
If you guys start shipping thompson routers i think i will start using BT for home user clients..

Well I think they are very good. They're French you know, so they must be good.

What sort of issues?  Is there a common set of problems we should look out for?

We're already shipping them and have been for a while. We've also got TR-69 firmware as we hope to start using this next year (which means we'll be able to configure the routers ourself at this end).
I'd be interested to hear of the problems you've encountered and in particular what models they affect?

what sort of problems?
Interesting that your going to recommend BT Home broadband (which comes with a Homehub which are made, IIRC by Thompson!)
Why not simply recommend a supplier based on service and suggest routers separately?

Re: PlusNet going to use Thompson routers ??????? are you mad.

Agree on that.
No disrespect to Plusnet (am an extremely happy customer) as am sure that the supplied routers are first class but I decided to use my own router after I had a one port router (not made by Thomson I might add and was supplied by another ISP) that used to get so extremely hot that I decided to switch it off when I wasn't using my connection for fear it might start a fire (it was stood on an end so that all the ventilation slots were clear but was on carpet because the router lives under my desk)
Seriously though, I wouldn't recommend anyone other than PN now

Re: PlusNet going to use Thompson routers ??????? are you mad.

We've got a Speedtouch in the office which has never missed a beat over the last few years. I used one at home until I acquired a Draytek after which it was retired for use as a spare, but that never gave any problems. A quick Google search doesn't seem to indicate any systemic problems.
What's the issue?

Neil

Hmm, why hasn't the OP responded as yet?  Is it because that as an IT Professional, he know's he's in the wrong by not qualifying his statement at the original time of posting?

Moderators Note:
Let's bring this back on topic, which to remind everyone is Thomson routers / PN's choice of hardware, not the credentials of the OP and his / her post.

Re: PlusNet going to use Thompson routers ??????? are you mad.

I'm of the opinion that people should source their own hardware, that way people cannot complain.
In the days of dial up, no ISP used to provide a modem did they?
