Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

Has anyone else had any issues with FF 19 or IE 9 after installing KB2670838?
Both FF and IE would fail to run. FF kept giving a window saying it had crashed and would need to be restarted. Did get it to start in safe mode but not exactly what I want.
IE just had a blank window and an error message that it had crashed. No issue with Chrome.
I uninstalled KB2670838 and all is well again.
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on PC (haven't attempted the update on the laptop).
There is some info on FF here and more info here and here

Re: Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

Decided to try the same update on my (non-critical) laptop (W7 Home 64).
No problems detected so far!

Interesting, it's showing as an optional update which I would normally install sooner or later; I'll install it in a "controlled " way, i.e. forewarned and forearmed!

Re: Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

Lots of people have reported this problem elsewere on the net and it seems to effect firefox only but could also effect chromo and IE.
I refused to install the patch as i don't use IE.

Re: Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

With Windows, there are usually enough different systems and users so that some people somewhere always manage to have problems with pretty much any piece of software or update.
Probably something graphics drivers related since much of the platform update is DirectX related and some of the workarounds mentioned disabling hardware acceleration in the browser settings.

Re: Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

My own personal experience since the update, using Chrome with Adblock extension and clearing the internet cache overnight, was not good. Pages with a significant amount of graphics content were taking a long time to load initially and the tiny cooling fan on my laptop went into overdrive.
Just uninstalled and things now seem back to normal. So beware!

Re: Platform Update for Windows (KB2670838)

I've noticed some odd artifacts in text rendering in Firefox,  and after checking some bug reports it seems this patch is a significant factor...
Beyond that,  I've had no problems.
