Phonomatic P8 No Drive

Just aquired a P8 Phonomatic which has motor and light working but no drive, the variable resistor seems fine as does the forward and reverse. I'm hoping to find a broken belt or such inside.

Any thoughts welcome please before I open it.

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

I have tried moving the still Projection switch into both positions as well.

A wild guess.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EUMIG-P8-PHONOMATIC-8mm-Cine-Projector-Belt-Main-Motor-Belt-/152151353289

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

@30FTTC06 If the belt's not broken you can put it in a kettle and boil it, this will have the effect of shrinking the belt when cool and you can try it at least before you buy a replacement, but at that cost...

Wouldn't be the first time I've done this to cassette and record player belts in the past, and it worked for me.

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

That looks to be a chunky bulb that I'm sure you'd get an LED equivalent for as the one in the eBay listing appears to be a single pin bayonet cap.

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

I've ordered one from here which looks to be Halogen, I'm not sure if that will be a bit brighter or not.

@Anonymous  Do you know off hand what type of lamp the old one might be ?

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

It would appear that I've got it wrong (not for the first time) that's a four bayonet bulb you have there and not the standard I thought it was. Having said that you in theory only need the two bayonets to hold it in. There is dual bayonet one here at half the price but...

Does this give you any extra information

https://shop.van-eck.net/SF-0052.html as regards the bulbs it replaces?

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

It helps to know the 2 pin should fit yes thanks for that.

I think what I was trying to ask is, the old bulb is listed here as Incandescent, and the new bulb is Halogen which should be brighter ?  I'm now thinking that I may have heat dissipation issues etc... It's just an unknown to me. the people who might be able to answer that question have long since departed this world.

Re: Phonomatic P8 No Drive

As regards your LED thoughts, I guess a 2 pin LED should be possible. I'm also keeping the old cap with the idea of transplanting  a cheap LED lamp into the old cap. I just wanted to get this thing up and running and maybe even try get some footage on a digital camera.
