Re: Phone line and Broadband

Having it all wired up in a new build doesn't mean it's connected at the exchange, just that the building has the wires.  My house (new build) was wired up with BT sockets but BT still charged I think £129 to hook us up to the exchange.  It's worth finding out if you are plugged in or if you'll need to be connected, if you need to be connected and you want to use it for light usage, the mobile broadband would be the cheapest option.

Re: Phone line and Broadband

In the past couple of days I read about a Plusnet offer to connect a line for £50. (Ends 31st January)  I cannot remember where it was. If I find it I will post here.
Edit: That didn't take as long as I feared!

Re: Phone line and Broadband

According to MoneySavingExpert.com BT has an offer whereby one can get a line connected free until the end of January 2010.  It is said to require an 18-month contract and some other terms and conditions apply.
The problem seems to be finding anyone in BT who has heard about it.
