Pc self boot?

I've just happened upon a strange occurrence and wondered if anyone had an explanation. Basically, just a moment ago, I was reading a news article on my phone when all of a sudden my pc booted up of its own (or not mine) volition. The next baffling thing (or not if you know why) I noticed is , that I had no internet and could not log into my router's page via WiFi, despite my phone and pc reporting a full signal. So I went to the adjacent room to check/restart the router and found the lights to reporting "as normal" ie nothings wrong. Oh and the pc in that room had also turned on Shocked . I turned both PCs off and rebooted the router and normality resumed.
Anyone know what could caused this and should I be worried?
One thing to note is, of lately, my router has been acting up in this exact manner for a couple of weeks now, but never with both PCs spontaneously booting up.
Things to consider
Router - netgear wnr1000v3 roughly a year old
Pc 1 - VistaHP 64 WiFi
Pc 2 - XP Pro 32 Ethernet
