Parental control & security

Can anyone with personal experience please recommend software for parental control ?
Ideally with scheduled access, specification of allowed / blocked sites & categories, & activity logs.
Many thanks.

Put the screen in the living room.
Stop the link:censored from using mememespace when they should be doing their homework.
I've been forced to use a bios password in really bad cases  Grin

Re: Parental control & security

Internet Security software such as F-Secure,  Norton,  etc will do that, and also my Netgear Router has  facilities for barring access at certain times.

Re: Parental control & security

We have had this topic before and the first thing is to decide what you are trying to achieve. Until you have a clear idea of what you want you cant do very much. You may want to stop them visiting porn sites but if you block it by words then you may block sites like BBC news as they may have sexual words on as part of the news. You may wish to stop MSN this is simpler as you can remove it but they may go on another messaging service.
One of the best and cheapest ways is to setup a proxy server and use that you can get a free one from
http://www.youngzsoft.net/
With this you can log everything they do and if you explain everything is logged that may stop them doing somethings knowing you can see what they are doing.
You can setup all sorts of filter to block sites etc see

All this for free. But is does come down to what you want to permit and thats a hard one to work out depending on the child's age
