OCR software for Windows 10

There don't seem to be any recent threads on this subject - I'm looking for some good OCR software for Windows 10. I've got about 20 years of boating logs (type written) that my mum did and I want to get them up and online.  Some of the older logs are on paper that has yellowed a little and the type face is a little thin in places.

Often bundled with printer s/ware; certainly my Brother & Canon do.

MS have released Office Lens recently, I've never used it myself so can't comment on how good it is.

That's given me a few things to look at.

As expected the MS product insists on you installing other MS Products to work and seems to want you to sign in using your microsoft account (which I don't have) before it will actually do anything at all - and it might be me but if that app is how MS want their new apps to interact with the user I'll give up and go back to Windows 7

@SteveA - I bought one of these a while back and it's great you can stack it with papers and press a button and off it goes. It can scan both sides of the sheet at once, if needed, and creates multi page PDFs depending on how many sheets you feed it. The output can be saved locally or on a network drive if you have one, but it may not be what you're looking for.

@Browni - I was more making a comment about the lousy counter intuitive (and very much pre-school look) of the interface of the MS utility.

I've used Abbyy Finereader for years. Really good results with recognition although it sometimes tries to be a bit too clever converting the actual format into Word (say). Better if the target has more limited formatting and no image handling.

Abbyfinereader made a complete and utter mess of the first page I got it to look at -- it found 3 lines at the bottom of the page and ignored the rest

Ah no I hadn't thanks. Will take a look.

Shutter I had looked but like personal recommendations if possible first.
