No updates

I have Internet Explorer on Windows XP and not had updates for a long time.  How will I know that updates are installed.

Control Panel -> Add/Remove program and make sure the show updates tick box is ticked.
If you have your system set to install updates automatically you won't see it happening - and there have been frequent updates... they are issued by MS on the first Tuesday of the month.
You can also run windows update and see what updates have been installed.

Computer malware often blocks updates for fear that an update may target it.

Patch Tuesday Is the second Tuesday of each month and there's a few this Tuesday coming.
