No more web space.

I have just found out that Plus no longer allocate web space with new accounts. The packages have shrunk to two and you are told what you get but you are not told what you do not get. You do not get any web space and there is no mention of Domain names. There is no information about how a prospective customer could get web space should they require it and they are left to find out later on that they cannot have a web site. There is no information that I can find by entering web space in the search box that even leads to something useful for new people. It would appear that the Plus Net of today is quite different to the one that I joined some years ago. I expect it is all about competition and price - people want the cheapest - rather than facilities, which are quietly dropped one by one.

Re: No more web space.

If you are serious about wanting web space - you are far better off getting it from and expert hosting company. With so called "free webspace"  you get what you pay for more or less.
There are many cheap web hosting companies - just google it.

Re: No more web space.

Plus Net say: Since the launch of the new packages we have withdrawn the webspace and domain options for the new customers. The website was then updated to no longer have these options within the features list and there is no option to purchase these items.
Doing a search quickly reveals that tiscali talk about 50Mb of free space, which is not very much.
This site http://www.thetop10bestwebhosting.com/uk/ looks useful.
My main point is if you refer a new person you should tell them that there is no longer any web space and if they want web space other ISPs might offer some for free, as they do, or they will have to pay another organisation for that facility. I had been telling people that they got web space, as I have, but now I know that is no longer the case - you cannot even add it should you need it. If you refer people they expect you to know what you are talking about, as they will, most likely, have never heard of Plus Net and want to know what is better about it than all the adverts they have seen on the TV for Virgin Media, Sky, etc.
So, Plus Net, when I am recommending you to a prospective customer, what do I tell them that makes you stand out from the rest? If they can find a better ISP, in their view, after they have committed to your 18 month contract it will be my fault and not yours.

Re: No more web space.

Hi Pancho,
You're absolutely correct that we don't offer webspace for new customers.  They can however take a £1 domain name should they wish to.  They just pay us an extra £1 per month and we'll register a domain name for them.
The majority of our customers (probably in the region of 95-98%) don't use their webspace.  As such, we've gone for the best "no-frills" price point and focussed on our strengths, high quality broadband service and award winning customer service.
Like others have said, there's some great web hosting and domain registration companies out there, but if you're just looking to register a domain name, it can't hurt to have a look at http://just-the-name.co.uk which is our sister company specialising in domain sales.
It's also worth pointing out that any existing customers with webspace will be able to take their webspace with them to the new products.
