No internet access on XP computer- HELP - Fixed but I don't know why

It accesses the network and sees the other computer on it
ipconfig /all doesn't show up any problem
Putting in the IP address doesn't work either

Turned out to be internet explorer - version 6 (default) only uses 64bit encryption - so when trying to visit google (which defaults to https / SSL) IE couldn't handle the encryption / decrupt it and thus claimed it couldn't connect.
Upgraded IE (or installed a mozilla browser) and bingo... internet worked. I only noticed as my partners laptop IE worked but my other machines (inc virtuals) didn't... and hers was version 7 of IE. When I looked at the about tab I noticed the installed encryption was 128 or 256 bits (can't remember which now).
Not sure if that helps as you've not mentioned the browser but if by any chance it is IE 6, ditch it as it can't handle modern SSL.

Device manager shows no problems
Rebooting router didn't fix it
Problem is with all browsers and tracert command

Removed the fixed IP address from the Billion 8800NL router
Rebooted computer and all now works
