I have inherited a Belkin Router complete with installation cd.
I use a Dell Inspiron Laptop with wifi facility and use Windows XP.
I am connected to broadband at present via Voyager 105 modem.
Could anyone direct me to an idiot's guide to setting up a router?
Am I PPPoE or PPPoA user?
How do I find my VCI and VPI number?
Any suggestions ref security? WEP or WAP?

Hi there,
You need to use PPPoA
VPI = 0 VCI = 38
I'll let someone more knowledgable than I answer your question about wireless security

WAP is much better than WEP if your equipment can handle it (depends how old the "inherited" router is) but any security is better than none!
I am always amazed at how many unsecured wireless networks show up on my network scans and I don't even live in a very densely populated area!

@ianrob, I found this for you which should be of some use in setting up your router.
Agree with comments about WPA and WPA2, go for the latter if possible. Some people setup their wireless client to access only the MAC (hardware identifcation) of 'their' router. Also, you could set your SSID to be a red herring, e.g. Netgear - small but every little helps
<note: noticed how old the post is so maybe he sorted it?>
