New M$ advert for Office

Just been listening to the latest M$ advert for its overpriced word processor et all. "Colin" your new PC "Can't do anything with out you purchasing M$ Office" at a cost of something like the same again  Crazy
Or the "Your kids need M$ Office to help them with their homework"  Shocked In my day homework was done by hand and a pencil.
If you are tempted to do this DON'T. Try Open Office Suite, http://www.openoffice.org it is FREE and can do 99% of what M$ office can do. It includes a Word processor (with spelling & grammar checker) Spreadsheet etc.
Go on give open source/free software a try, It won't cost you anything to try it, and it may save you some £££.

It might not cost me anything, but every time I try and use it, I end up with a few more grey hairs as OpenOffice just doesn't do what I want it to, when I want it to.

Re: New M$ advert for Office

I gave up on MS Office a long time ago - four years ago to be precise. I bought a copy of Office for Mac when I switched to the Mac OS back in March '05, but within a few months I'd become so fed up with it that I sold it on eBay and bought myself iWork instead. iWork's definitely not as advanced as Office, but I am frequently impressed by how it's just generally so well thought-out... and on the odd occasion I need something more advanced, I switch over to NeoOffice to get the job done.

Re: New M$ advert for Office

I got a trial version of MS Office when I bought a new laptop about a year ago.  When the trial ended I had a message asking me to purchase.  If I click cancel on the message I find it opens Office for me and I can use it as normal.  Bonus Grin Grin

Ssssh! Bill Gates might be watching, expect his lawyers at your door shortly lol
I work in the Social Enterprise & Charity sector, and over the past two years, we have been advising our networks to embrace Open Source to help reduce their reliance on external funding monies. Open Source then lets them redirect more of their funds into tackling and meeting their Social Objectives and helping to regenerate their communities.
