New Low Priced Entry-Level iMacs 2014 Announced

WWDC 2014 (2nd June) didn’t see any new hardware announcements, however, as expected......
Today, Apple announce the New Low Priced Entry-Level iMacs
At a saving of £250 - £300 on current similar models
21.5-inch now starting from £899
27-inch starting from £1,449
Other configuration options include a 1TB hard disk, 1TB Fusion Drive and 256GB flash storage, among others.
As with all new Apple products, iWork and iLife app suites are available for free, and includes iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
The new iMac will be powered by OS X Mavericks, with the possibility of a free upgrade to OS X Yosemite once it becomes available later this year.

I paid £999 for a similar 21.5-inch model two years ago. Slightly lower spec.
And £1,599 for a similar 27-inch model two years ago
From John Lewis, who give a two year warranty.

They are not low-priced by general computer standards.

I would also need one of these...
Apple USB SuperDrive @ £65 extra

It would help if you got your facts correct.
Did you not read the spec given in the link ?
It's a Recorder / Player.

Note... RECORDER

Everything you need in an optical drive.
USB Powered, no PSU required.
Whether you’re at the office or on the road, you can play and burn both CDs and DVDs with the Apple USB SuperDrive.
It’s perfect when you want to watch a DVD, install software, create backup discs and more.
Only slightly bigger than a CD case, the Apple USB SuperDrive slips easily into your travel bag when you hit the road, and takes up little space on your desk or tray table when you’re working.
Home Movies edited in iMovie (for example) can be recorded onto DVD with the Apple USB SuperDrive, which is fully compatible with Apple iMacs etc

It still has the same functionality as a standard USB DVD drive - these are available quite readily for around £20
Heck - I bought an external Bluray reader which will also write DVD and CDs for my PC for £18 delivered last year.

No DVD Readers cannot write/Rewrite.
DVD writers however can Read and these are readily available pretty cheaply  Wink
Also annoyingly that mac is ~$1100 over in the USA, not sure how they got $1100 = £900  Sad

Macworld Review:
Not a good review at all.....

With a price that’s $200 less than the previous low-end 21.5-inch iMac, the new $1099 21.5-inch iMac cuts costs, but at the expense of storage capacity and performance.
The new $1099 iMac doesn’t displace any existing iMac: it brings to three the number of standard configuration 21.5-inch iMacs available.

Low Priced Entry-Level iMacs

I'm guessing this is using a strictly relative definition of 'Low Priced'  Roll_eyes

I'm betting you could make a 16 core PC for £1,099.  Cheesy
