Netgear DG834G issues

I been using this router since today and Ive updated it to the latest firmware 5.01.14 I thought it was running fine, it has been up until I just tried to play battlefield2. I first noticed a problem with the server browser, it was finding very few/none servers. After joining a server, although my ping is showing as being low and stable, there is horrible lag after everything I do and the game kind of stutters abit aswel
I tried a few different games and I am getting the same problem.
Is there a setting I need to enable/disble, or anything? This is really disappointing
ive tried changing a few settings like enabling dmz at my computer, disabling port/dos scan, my mtu was 1448 so i put that to 1500. nothing seems to help though
