Re: My website has been archived

Hello Bob
I would be grateful if you could activate webstats I’m not sure what it entails but if it helps resolve the issue then I welcome your help. Perhaps I have too many photos on the website?

Re: My website has been archived

Have you had access to the webstats yet. It could be that your site is being scanned by the search bots such as Google. Have you got a robots.txt file?

Re: My website has been archived

I’ve not had any webstats, Jelv. And I do not know what robot.txt is. Sorry

Re: My website has been archived

Do you want your pages and images to be findable via Google etc?

If you don't create a robots.txt file in the base directory.

Re: My website has been archived

Good point @jelv.

Is it possible the OP's pictures are appearing when someone does a search from say images.google.com

(I don't know if it is, just wondering really).

Re: My website has been archived

I've checked and the site is being indexed by Google - Google trawling the site will be adding to the bandwidth used!

Re: My website has been archived

Are you able to restore my website, please?

I don't like getting my posts muddled and being castigated but I don't know how to restore my site to a PlusNet  acceptable level

Re: My website has been archived

Is it the case that content accessed via a link to a foreign website won't be included in the homepages data limit?

Re: My website has been archived

No foreign websites. The website is just for my family and friends in the UK

Re: My website has been archived

By "foreign", I meant non-Plusnet web sites - nothing to do with geography. Smiley

Re: My website has been archived

I know so little!

No, I don't have foreign websites to my knowledge.

I can only repeat that nothing about the website is significantly different to the previous version (which I've had to rebuild).

If anything, it's smaller than before.

Thank you for helping me thus far.

@terrybraverman

As it's the weekend you may not get a further repsonse from staff till Monday.

I have tagged @bobpullen and, hopefully, he will respond as soon as possible.

Re: My website has been archived

@terrybraverman, I've restored your site again.

I've also tried enabling webstats so you have some insight into which pages are generating the most bandwidth but for some reason I'm struggling. Will check again next week when I'm back in the office.

I can tell you though, from a quick look at your site that you need to do some housekeeping on some of your hosted images. Take the photos page for example. There's at least one thumbnail image that's an uncompressed bitmap (.bmp file) and is over 10MB in size! In fact the total file size of just the thumbnails on that page is > 20MB. To put that into context, less than 15 visits to that page alone in a single day would be enough to take you over your daily bandwidth allowance.
