Hi I am here because Plusnet sent me an email saying I was nearing 60Gb usage for this month. Never had that warning before. So came to have a look at my usage. The overnight usage is very high each night, 19mb one night another 900mb! I don't have anything set to use overnight so it should be just a trickle, a few kb or mb but surely not those high ones, 400mb, 60mb etc. This is happening every night, very odd. Any one recognise this issue?
thanks
Fixed! Go to the fix.

Your posts seems to be in the right place but maybe I could ask a moderator if it can be moved to another board.
In regards to your high usage - do you have any logs on your router about the amount of traffic? How about your mobile device? Do you have a lot of apps and have it set to automatically update? The thing about mobile apps is that when they update, your device will download the entire application again as if it was a first time installation (I have a few apps that are over 2gb that update once a month at least, it becomes a bit of a pain!).

I really don't see apps using 60GB of data in a month. Thats a horrendous amount of upgrading.
More likely you have an insecure wifi router that is letting other people use your internet at night - and then using it for streaming (eg youtube) or other things.
Make sure your router is secure with a password and that its using the best security on offer - WPA2 at present i think. Also check with anyone else in your home to see if they have any devices in use at night.

Hi, I have checked the wi fi on my mobile and it shows other users in the area of course and like theirs my connection has a 'padlock' sign which means it's pass protected I think? Worrying.
No other users in the home.

Things you could try to find out if it's wireless 'leakage'.
1. Change the wireless password.
2. Switch off your router wireless at night.
3. Switch off all your devices at night rather than leaving them on standby.

I would certainly change your wireless password in the first case.
That will rule out anyone else using it.
Also any of your devices which want to download updates on the sly will whinge that the old password is no longer valid, so at least you'll know about it.

Hi Alex, when I went to login to my modem it showed "this connection is not secure". I've attached a screencapture. I didn't go any further till posting this message here.
My modem is a Plusnet 514F2B
Is the SSID or Password the one I need to change on the modem?
I have a card sent with modem with details it has:
"Wireless Network"
SSID
password
Also
"Router Access"
user
password
Which is the password I need to change please?
