Get yourself a 42" LCD 1080P television and put it on your desk. Plug your computer into that and it would be ideal for your website testing

Might be worth checking for driver updates for your current monitor to see if it goes up to (or higher) than 1280x1024 - it could save you some cash.

It might be worth checking out the performance/cost difference for your applications including the costs of the motherboard
One thing to consider is the noise and heat generation. I selected quiet and cool components with a well ventilated case and haven't regretted it.

1024 x 768 - Normal setting

If you have a 17" monitor and you put 1024 lines on it, the text will be a certain size.
If you only put 768 lines on it, the text will appear larger.
If you put more lines on it, the text will appear smaller.
The text displayed is a set number of lines tall, so the only way to have more lines without reducing the apparent size of the text is to have a larger monitor.
Obviously, a larger monitor will cost more though.
If reading the text is a problem for you, its pretty difficult to strike a balance between image quality and text size.
It you have more lines, the images will appear smoother, but the text which is a fixed number of lines will appear smaller.
A larger monitor with the same number of lines effectively is making the size of the line larger, so you get back to an apparent lower quality (greater pixellation, loss of smoothness)
Increasing the number of lines to smooth the picture will result in the text reducing in size again.
You see the problem?
Perhaps a larger monitor, with accessibility tools to increase the test sizes might work, but you are a better expert on this than me.

Can you make the text bigger? I do this in Firefox using CTRL and + (the plus sign).

You will need a 64bit processor to go with your 8GB RAM and 64bit Windows....
