My Bitdefender login

Just dumped AVIRA and AVAST and got Bitdefender  FREE  installed....
On one of the panels it shows Virus Shield ON
                                                        Auto Scan    ON
My Bit defender                                  Login
Not logged in, 29 days left
Expanding that last bit, it says My Bitdefender offers access to a host of products or services. You need to register your Bitdefender Installation to continue using this product after the expiration period....
Question is.... does that refer to Bitdefender as a whole,....  (i.e Bitdefender becomes useless after 30 days)....  or is it cleverly worded, to make you log in under the guise of taking up the "offer" before it expires ?

Re: My Bitdefender login

Is not as good as Bitdefender.... and.. Microsoft admit that it isn`t..... it is not even intended to be, according to Microsoft, it is there for those who have little or no knowledge of antivirus, and provides a basic cover for them....
( sorry I can`t find the linky or page that said that  Huh )
Apart from that....your contribution was as much use as......... Erm...... M.S.E... ( not Money Savings Expert )....

Re: My Bitdefender login

Hi Shutter - As far as I can tell Bitdefender offer a 30-day trial after which you will need to purchase a subscription if you want to continue.
I use BullGuard which uses the Bitdefender antivirus engine - they offer a 60-day free trial.
Always worth looking at Amazon for competitive prices for AV products.

Re: My Bitdefender login

OK... Thanks Jim.... will let it run for the 30 days... and see what happens then...IF I have to register for it to continue, then I might resort to another AV program... Really wanted this one because it is supposed to be very lightweight and not hog resources and slow down the laptop...
Does anyone know is AVG still heavyweight on resources?
@ cyrilclark1    ... hmm as far as I am aware, there are two versions of Bitdefender  one of which is FREE  ( see Jim`s linky)  which is the one I have got in use at present...
I am not inclined to pay for something when there is a free version ( being a Yokshu Tyke  Cheesy )

Re: My Bitdefender login

Yes, just found the free Bitdefender - I was wrong on that one!
Personally I prefer to pay for my AV product - at times the technical support can be invaluable.
I don't buy my AV (BullGuard) from their website - very much cheaper elseware.

Re: My Bitdefender login

BD does not force paid subscription for the free version after 30 days.  All you have to do is 'subscribe' to the free version or register.  I have used BD for about 2 years now both free and paid. IMHO it's been the best unobtrusive antivirus/spyware I have ever used.

Re: My Bitdefender login

Well, the 30 days was up.... and it was still " working "... however,.... every 10 mins or so, up would come the nag screen for me to register....
Got rid of it, because I did not know what it was doing.... so used to having "updates" being notified, and possible "risk" sites....  now using AVAST again !...

Re: My Bitdefender login

if your on the unlimited package why not use the free MacAfee that comes with it from PlusNet ? its better than freeware and whilst it might slow your pc down a touch that is mostly because its working, and if you have a quad core or higher you could always assign core affinity so mcafee has sole use of a single core instead of the ability to hog all of them, which would leave the machine free to operate on the remainder Smiley
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
