Monitor Advice

I'm looking at a new monitor. Has anyone any experience of BenQ monitors?

Re: Monitor Advice

I've currently got a GL2250HM, and it's good. I've also got an older 17" model (FP75GL) which still works OK after 8 years. I would be reluctant to try a different brand, myself.
All depends what you want it for, of course...

How big and what type
My last one was an IIyama ProLite XUB2790HS and I am delighted with it

Re: Monitor Advice

Any particular reason why you want LED - I would recommend IPS as it is far better screen quality
This would be a good choice http://www.amazon.co.uk/IIYAMA-ProLite-XU2290HS-B1-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B00HY77URI/ref=sr_1_2?s=com... and I recommend buying from Amazon as, if there are any dead pixels their no quibble return system is magnificent

Re: Monitor Advice

I'd always heard LED was best but having read up on IPS it looks better and I like the spec of the model you've recommended. Thank you OJ.
I might buy it when my winter fuerl allowance lands in my bank account Cool

Re: Monitor Advice

@OJ, just had a closer look at the Amazon site. I can't fully understand this sentence as it seems to include LED, LCD and IPS. I'm confused Undecided

Re: Monitor Advice

In basics....
LCD is the physical technology f the panel. LED is the way it is illuminated. And IPS is the way the screen is addressed to show the picture.

Re: Monitor Advice

One of my system has multiple  BenQ GL2450 monitors http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GL2450HM-Widescreen-Multimedia-speakers/dp/B005OPLG0O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF...
LED. HDMI, DVI, the refresh rate is good, runs from HDMI card, had them for about two years, they are wall mounted in my workshop.
Am  considering converting my desktop (currently Samsung SyncMasters) to BenQ as was impressed them.

Re: Monitor Advice

Can I ask another question?
Some monitors switch off automatically when the PC is turned off and some have to be turned off manually. Is this a function of the PC or the monitor?
I will be moving from a 4:3 to a 16:9 format. Things like a word document or a website will be adjusted to the new format. What happens to pictures I have stored on the PC? As I type this I think I know the answer but will ask it any way.

Re: Monitor Advice

Website and documents will adjust if you set them to full screen
However a word of warning
Check the screen height as a 22" 16:9 is much shallower than a normal 4:3
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_size
a 16:9 22" is about  the same height as a 17" 4:3
This why when I changed my 22" 16:10 to a 16:9 I went to  27" although a 24" would have given the same height as I had previously

Re: Monitor Advice

The monitors don't "switch off" they go into standby, this is controlled by Windows Settings, you can set how long the monitor stays on for when there's no input from kb/mouse and whether or not to go into standby when you power your pc down. (I think) Smiley

Re: Monitor Advice

with some monitors its down to the signal input, mine (iiyama) goes into standby mode as soon as the signal from the pc is switched off, my old monitor (Samsung) I had to manually put it in standby or off or it would  sit there saying no signal until the next time I switched the pc on, that default behaviour could be modified by through the menu but every time the power to the monitor it reverts to default setup/
some that are powered via the pc operate differently again by having the psu disable the output when the pc shuts down /
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
