Missing dll file

When I clicked a link in an email to open a WMV file I got a message:
This application has failed to start because MSVCC71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.
Is there an Idiot's Guide to solving this problem?
I looked on google and that led me to a site that was trying to sell me a prog to do it.

Re: Missing dll file

try here http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71
Just click on the free link. and unzip it when you get it, put it in the c:\win\system32 folder.

Click here to go to the download of msvcr71.dll

Re: Missing dll file

That linky is also to a different DLL - MSVCR71 no MSVCC71
@Artmo double check your error before downloading it.

Re: Missing dll file

OOPS! sorry about that.
As to it being at the bottom I use FF and adblock plus, it was at the top on the right  Grin
And that site isn't bad for getting the odd dll from. You could always search the M$ site for it

Re: Missing dll file

I use FF as well !.... strange !  Undecided ..... I hate those pages where you have to "search high and low" to find the correct linky to what you want, instead of the so called "helpful" links to sort out your computer problems........ at a cost !.... which are usually more prominently displayed ...... Shocked
