Re: Mint 18 released

Just as no one knows how to operate W10 '-)

There are several wiki's about systemd, but until I actually need to do something with it it isn't bothering me.

wondered if Mint devs had made any effort to stick with sysvinit.

AIUI, such was the controversy surrounding Debian's decision to adopt systemd, it's possible to upgrade from Debian 7.x to Debian 8.x and keep sysvinit.

Ditto for a clean install of Debian 8.x - systemd is the default but it can use sysvinit (which I think is what LMDE2 uses).

How do you know?

From memory (been a while and I only have Android with me)....

Inxi can tell you the init system in use ( -v3 switch?)

/sbin/init symlinked to systemd

PID1 is systemd

Re: Mint 18 released

Regardless of Debian, LMDE2 doesn't effectively use systemd - although I have a few hundred systemd files on my disks...

dmesg | grep systemd
[ 1.403927] systemd-udevd[75]: starting version 215

[ 348.505267] systemd-logind[3202]: Removed session c4.

I think it may, at most, run udev.
