Re: Mint 16RC "released"

In all honesty, 3.11.0 was pretty good for me, i've been using it since the 16rc release, mint 15 was aweful, not 100% which one  i was using,  but i did try another and that was Rubbish as well.
System kept hanging on boot, random lockups..... i'll see how this 3.12.0 is now i've updated.

Re: Mint 16RC "released"

Sadly the Nvidia drivers are still excrement when it comes to optimus enabled laptops
It's as if the people who write these drivers don't use Multiple monitors or something  Huh
That said the drivers are considerably better than they used to be but not yet at a stage where I could actually use Linux as my main OS.

Re: Mint 16RC "released"

Don't know about laptop drivers but the desktop series are fine with multiple monitors. Using 2 here, an 19" and a 20.5".

Re: Mint 16RC "released"

Probably more due to the way optimus works for the inbuilt display than anything else, essentially to use the Nvidia GPU you render on the Nvidia then copy into the intel's framebuffer since it's the intel gpu connected to the internal screen.
A right mess.
Out of interest are you using an Nvidia or an AMD/ATI card?  I'd love to run linux on the HTPC but it's HD video decoding didn't work as well as it does on windows last time I tried it and that machine has one of those Fusion APU's (E350) which is to gutless to handle 1080p video without the GPU accelleration working properly.

It also doesn't list my BR burner  Grin
I used to have a drive list like yours but put a 2TB in over xmas, and moved everything over.

Re: Mint 16RC "released"

I dropped the 40Gb (It only had a windows 7 install that I can't remember when I last booted anyway) and replaced it with another 1Tb drive last night and made a 2.3Tb LV out of the 2x1Tb and 500Gb drives.
I also re-connected the unplugged DVD drive whilst I was in there  Grin

Re: Mint 16RC "released"

Ouch! I had an LV ONCE. I lost 1Tb of stuff when a disk failed on it. No redundancy and no easy way to recover from a failure on it.
Now I just leave them as is and mount to sub folders as needed.
E.g. My "server" has 4 disks in it. one 40Gb system & home, one 2TB, 1 512Gb and 1 3Tb. All mounted to different areas and shared via nfs. This way I can move stuff about and maintain some free space on the drives.
